Sound familiar?

Partnership accounts causing more confusion than they should?

Partnerships look straightforward on paper, but the compliance side has a way of catching people out. Income needs allocating correctly between partners, Self Assessment deadlines arrive for everyone at once, and the year-end accounts have to reconcile with what HMRC expects. When no one is tracking this properly during the year, January becomes an unpleasant scramble for everyone involved.

  • ✕ Profit allocation records kept inconsistently, if at all, during the year
  • ✕ Partners unsure of their individual tax bills until long after year-end
  • ✕ Partnership accounts not filed on time, creating penalties and unnecessary correspondence

What a well-managed partnership looks like

With the right accountant handling your partnership accounts, none of the above should be a problem. Records are maintained throughout the year, each partner knows their position in good time, and filing happens without drama.

  • ✓ Profit allocation tracked and recorded cleanly throughout the year
  • ✓ Each partner’s personal tax position known well ahead of the SA deadline
  • ✓ Year-end partnership accounts prepared and filed accurately, on time
  • ✓ Fixed fee agreed upfront — no hourly surprises at the end of the job

02

Partner Self Assessment Returns

Each partner has their own SA100 to file. We prepare and submit individual Self Assessment returns for all partners, drawing directly from the partnership accounts so nothing is duplicated or missed. Tax bills are calculated and communicated in good time — not in January.

03

Bookkeeping and Year-Round Support

Clean records throughout the year make the year-end straightforward. Monthly or quarterly bookkeeping using Xero or QuickBooks Online keeps income and expenditure allocated correctly between partners as you go. Questions get answered the day you ask them.

Why Supreme Consulting

What sets us apart from the alternatives

There is no shortage of accountants. The difference is how well they understand your situation before you explain it, and whether the advice you get is useful when you actually need it.

📅

Over 20 years of practical experience

Stuart Green founded Supreme Consulting in 2005 and works directly with clients on partnership and business accounts. That is two decades of dealing with HMRC, partnership disputes, allocation queries, and changing tax rules. You are speaking to the person doing the work, not a junior who will pass it up the chain.

💷

Fixed fees, no billing surprises

Pricing is agreed before any work begins, based on the scope of your partnership. There are no hourly rates running in the background and no invoice that arrives larger than expected. If your requirements change, pricing is discussed openly before the scope changes.

☁️

Cloud accounts you can actually see

Certified in Xero and QuickBooks Online, we keep partnership records in the cloud so every partner can see the current position at any time. No waiting for a quarterly printout. Year-end is considerably less painful when the books are current throughout the year.

Getting started

Up and running in four steps

Switching accountants mid-year is less disruptive than most people expect. The first conversation costs nothing and commits you to nothing.

1

A no-obligation discovery call

We start with a straightforward conversation about your partnership, how it is currently set up, and what you need from your accountant. No sales script, no pressure. You will leave the call knowing what working together would actually involve.

2

A clear, fixed-fee proposal

You will receive a written proposal covering exactly what is included, the timeline, and the annual cost. Pricing is fixed and specific to your partnership’s size and complexity. Nothing in the quote should be a surprise.

3

We handle the transition

We contact your previous accountant, collect the necessary records, and migrate everything to the cloud. If the books need catching up, we will tell you the cost upfront before starting. You do not need to manage the handover.

4

Partnership accounts running smoothly

From here, compliance runs on a regular cycle. Accounts are prepared, returns are filed, and each partner receives their personal tax information in good time. Your records are current, your obligations are met, and January holds considerably fewer surprises than it used to.

Questions

Things people usually ask before getting in touch

Do you handle the partnership return as well as each partner’s individual Self Assessment?+

Yes, both are included when you engage us for partnership accounting. The SA800 partnership return and each partner’s SA100 are prepared together, using the same underlying figures. This avoids the inconsistencies that arise when different people file different parts. Each partner is told their liability and payment dates in good time.

What does partnership accounting actually cost?+

Pricing depends on the number of partners, the size of the business, and whether you need bookkeeping throughout the year or just the year-end accounts and returns. All fees are fixed and agreed upfront. You will receive a written quote before any work begins, so there is nothing to calculate retrospectively.

Our books are behind and not in great shape. Is that a problem?+

It is common. We assess what needs catching up during the initial call and quote for any catch-up work separately before starting it. Most partnerships that come to us with records in some disarray are in a considerably tidier position within a few weeks. The catch-up cost is agreed upfront.

Are we locked into a long-term contract?+

No. There is no minimum term. If the arrangement is not working, you give notice and leave with your records in order and nothing outstanding. Most clients stay because the service works, not because they have to.

Can you help if partners have different profit-sharing arrangements or changing allocations during the year?+

Yes. Profit-sharing ratios that change during the year, or arrangements where partners draw different salaries and then share residual profits, are straightforward to handle when the records are maintained properly. We set up the bookkeeping to reflect your actual arrangements from the outset, so the year-end allocation is accurate rather than an estimate.

Is there anything we can do to reduce the tax each partner pays?+

There are often legitimate opportunities worth considering, including the timing of profit extraction, pension contributions, and structuring allowable expenses correctly. These are reviewed as part of the annual accounts process. If incorporation or a different structure would be materially beneficial, that conversation happens when the numbers support it, not as a default recommendation.
