Budgeting Services · Hampshire
Your business budget, actually used.
Most Hampshire small businesses put a budget together once a year, file it somewhere, and rediscover it when things have already gone sideways. A working budget is a reference point you check monthly. Supreme Consulting builds and maintains yours with fixed-fee pricing and replies within one working day.
- A budget built around your actual trading pattern, not a template
- Monthly variances tracked so surprises arrive early, not at year-end
- Cash flow and budget aligned so you can plan hires, purchases and tax
- Plain-English commentary on what the numbers mean for your decisions
No long-term contract. If it is not working after three months, you leave with clean, organised records and nothing outstanding.

Sound familiar?
Budget done in January. Ignored by March.
A lot of Hampshire small businesses go through the motions of budgeting at the start of the year, produce something that looks reasonable, then watch trading drift away from it with no clear picture of why. By the time year-end arrives, the numbers are a surprise in both directions. That is not how a budget is supposed to work.
- Last year’s budget sat untouched because no one maintained it month to month
- Cash shortfalls appearing mid-quarter with no advance warning in the numbers
- No reliable view of whether the business is trading ahead or behind plan
What a working budget looks like
A budget that gets used is one that gets updated. Supreme Consulting builds your budget from real trading data, reviews it against actuals each month, and tells you clearly what the variances mean before they become decisions you have to make under pressure.
- Monthly budget-versus-actual review keeps the numbers live and useful
- Cash flow forecast updated alongside the budget so shortfalls are visible early
- Plain commentary each period tells you whether you are ahead, behind, and why
- Fixed-fee pricing means the cost of staying on top of your budget is predictable

Budgeting support built for small businesses
Three core components that turn a budget from an annual document into something your business actually runs against.
Budget Build and Setup
Your budget is constructed from your actual income and cost structure, not a generic spreadsheet. We work through your trading history, seasonality, and planned changes to produce a figure-by-figure plan that reflects how your business actually operates. You start with a baseline that is defensible, not aspirational.
One-off or annualMonthly Budget vs Actuals
Each month your budget is compared against actual results, line by line. Variances are flagged and explained in plain terms, so you know whether a shortfall is a timing issue, a pricing issue, or something that needs a decision. You get the numbers and the meaning, not just a spreadsheet to stare at.
Ongoing monthlyCash Flow Forecasting Alongside
A budget shows whether the business is profitable; a cash flow forecast shows whether it can pay its bills. The two are maintained together so you have a complete picture of trading performance and liquidity at the same time. Tax liabilities, payroll timings, and supplier payments are all built in.

What makes the difference in practice
There is no shortage of accountants in Hampshire. Here is what changes when you work with one who has been doing this since 2005.
Budgets grounded in commercial reality
Stuart Green has spent over 20 years working directly with small business owners on their numbers. Budgets built here are based on how businesses actually trade, not how they plan to trade in theory. When the actuals come in differently, the commentary tells you why in terms you can act on.
Live numbers, not month-old data
Using Xero and QuickBooks Online, your bookkeeping and budget are maintained in the same system. That means actuals are pulled from current records, not reconstructed from bank statements weeks after the period closes. You are always looking at a current picture, not a historical one.
Fixed fee, no billing surprises
Monthly budgeting and cash flow support is priced as a fixed retainer. You know the cost before the first month runs, and it does not change if you ask a question mid-month or need a variance explained in detail. The bill is predictable, which is rather the point of working with an accountant on your budget.
Up and running in four steps
The process is straightforward. Most clients have a working budget in place within two to three weeks of their first call.
A conversation about your business
The first call covers your trading model, current financial setup, and what you actually want from a budget. No obligation and no paperwork required beforehand. It takes around 30 minutes and you will leave with a clear sense of what is involved.
A clear, fixed-fee proposal
You receive a written proposal covering exactly what is included, what it costs each month, and what the first steps are. No vague scope, no hourly rate that accumulates quietly in the background.
Budget built from your data
Once you are onboarded, your budget is built from your actual trading history and adjusted for anything you know is changing. The setup is handled by Stuart directly; you provide the information and we do the construction.
Monthly review, ongoing clarity
Each month your actuals are compared against the budget and you receive a short, plain summary of where things stand. Your cash flow forecast is updated at the same time. The point is that you always know where your business stands, without having to ask.
“Stuart is a thorough efficient worker who produces good quality results at a reasonable price.”
Things people usually ask first
Can you build a budget if my bookkeeping is currently behind or disorganised?
Yes, and it is more common than you might expect. We start with a catch-up to bring the records current, which gives us the historical data needed to build a budget that reflects how your business actually trades. The catch-up is priced separately and quoted upfront, so there are no open-ended costs.
What does budgeting support actually cost?
Pricing depends on the size and complexity of your business and what is already in place. Most clients pay a fixed monthly retainer that covers the budget build, monthly actuals comparison, and cash flow update. You receive a written quote before any work begins, with no hourly rates accumulating in the background.
I’m already using another accountant — can you take over the budgeting side only?
Yes. Some clients bring Supreme Consulting in specifically for management accounts and budgeting work while keeping their existing accountant for compliance. We are used to working alongside other advisors and can work from your existing bookkeeping data or Xero and QuickBooks Online records.
Is there a minimum contract or lock-in period?
No minimum term. Monthly retainer clients can give one month’s notice. The aim is that the service is useful enough that leaving does not cross your mind, not that leaving is made difficult. If you do decide to move on, your records are kept in order and you leave with everything you need.
How often will I actually hear from you once the budget is in place?
Monthly, as a minimum. After each period closes, you receive a variance summary covering the key movements and what they mean for the next few months. Outside of that, questions are responded to within one working day. The intention is that you are not waiting until year-end to find out how trading is going.
Can the budget be used to plan ahead for tax liabilities?
Yes, and that is one of the more practical uses of a maintained budget. Corporation tax, VAT payments, and self assessment liabilities can all be built into the cash flow forecast so you are setting money aside progressively rather than receiving a bill you were not expecting. It is considerably less stressful than the alternative.
