Sound familiar?
Still doing your own books because no one else gets it?
Freelancing means the accounting lands entirely on you. Self Assessment arrives once a year and feels like a surprise every time. Invoices pile up, expenses go unrecorded, and somewhere in a drawer there may be HMRC correspondence you have not fully read. None of it is catastrophic on its own, but it adds up.
- Tax bill arrives in January with little warning and less time to pay it
- Legitimate expenses going unclaimed because you are not sure what qualifies
- Hours spent chasing invoices, reconciling bank statements, and filing returns yourself
What sorted looks like
With the compliance handled and the books current, you spend your time doing the work that actually pays. Your tax position is visible well ahead of any deadline, and questions get answered the day you ask them.
- Tax bill calculated and communicated months before the deadline, with time to plan
- Expenses reviewed against HMRC guidelines so nothing claimable is left on the table
- Bookkeeping maintained monthly so year-end accounts require no last-minute scramble
What freelancers and small businesses say
Clients come to us with varying degrees of disorder in their records. Most leave considerably less worried about their finances than when they arrived.
I’m so grateful for the help received with my small cleaning business. Stuart holds your hand and advises throughout!
Very clear and gives excellent clarity on all situations when I am in doubt. Communication is always prompt, professional, and easy to understand, which makes dealing with finances far less stressful. They take the time to explain things.
What a freelancer package typically covers
Services are scoped to your setup and priced on a fixed monthly basis. No hourly rates, no bills that arrive without warning.
Self Assessment, Done Properly
Your SA100 is prepared with a full review of allowable expenses, including home office, equipment, travel, and professional subscriptions. You will know your tax liability in time to set the money aside, not after the reminder arrives. HMRC correspondence is handled without it landing back on your desk.
Included as standardMonthly Bookkeeping on the Cloud
Records maintained each month via Xero or QuickBooks Online, matched against your bank and invoicing. No year-end catch-up required because the books are already current. You get a clear picture of income and expenditure without opening a spreadsheet.
Cloud-firstTax Planning and VAT Support
Once your turnover approaches the VAT threshold, you will know about it before registration becomes mandatory. If you are already VAT-registered, quarterly returns and MTD submissions are handled as part of your package. IR35 reviews are available for freelancers working through limited companies or on contracts that may be caught.
Proactive and plannedOver 100 clients, one consistent result
From sole traders and freelancers to small limited companies, the feedback is consistent: plain advice, prompt replies, and considerably less to worry about.
Thorough, Efficient, Reasonable Price

Holds Your Hand Throughout the Process
“I’m so grateful for the help received with my small cleaning business. Stuart holds your hand and advises throughout!”
What makes this different from any other accountant
There are plenty of accountants who will file your return. Fewer who will tell you what it means for your business.
Two Decades of Freelancer Experience
Supreme Consulting has worked with sole traders, freelancers, and contractors since 2005. That means a working knowledge of how freelance income is structured, what HMRC looks for, and which expenses stand up to scrutiny. You will not need to explain how your business works before getting a useful answer.
Fixed Fees, No Surprises
Every engagement is scoped and priced upfront. You know what you are paying before any work begins, and the bill does not change mid-year because something took longer than expected. Pricing scales with the complexity of your work, not the hours logged.
Cloud Tools You Can Actually See
Certified in Xero and QuickBooks Online, the books are maintained on platforms that give you live visibility of income, expenditure, and tax position. You do not need to wait for a quarterly call to know where you stand financially.
Up and running in four steps
The process is straightforward and the admin is mostly ours to handle. Most freelancers are set up and operational within a week of their first call.
A Discovery Call First
A no-obligation conversation to understand your current setup, what you earn, how you invoice, and what you need from an accountant. No forms to fill in beforehand and no commitment required.
A Clear, Fixed Proposal
You receive a written proposal covering exactly what is included, what it costs, and when it starts. The scope is agreed before anything moves forward, so there are no ambiguities later.
We Handle the Transition
If you are switching accountants, we request the necessary records and handle the handover. If your books are behind, we assess what catch-up is needed and include it in the plan. You do very little of the legwork.
Your Finances Running Properly
Monthly bookkeeping maintained, Self Assessment filed ahead of schedule, tax position visible year-round. Your accounting is no longer something you deal with in a panic once a year.
“Very clear and gives excellent clarity on all situations when I am in doubt. Communication is always prompt, professional, and easy to understand, which makes dealing with finances far less stressful. They take the time to explain things.”
Things freelancers usually ask us first
Do you understand how freelance income works — multiple clients, irregular payments, late invoices?
Yes. Freelance income is typically varied in timing, spread across several clients, and often accompanied by gaps between projects. We handle the bookkeeping in a way that accommodates that pattern, match payments to invoices as they arrive, and keep your tax position current regardless of how lumpy the income is month to month.
What does it actually cost, and what is included?
Pricing is fixed and agreed upfront based on the scope of your work — typically Self Assessment, bookkeeping, and any VAT or advisory services you need. Most freelancers are on a monthly retainer that covers all core compliance. There are no hourly rates and no bills that arrive without warning. A tailored quote is provided before anything starts.
My books are a bit of a mess — can you still help?
That is a reasonably common starting point. We will assess what is outstanding, estimate the catch-up work required, and include it in your proposal so you know the cost before we begin. Once the backlog is cleared, the monthly service keeps things current going forward. It is manageable in almost every case.
Is there a minimum contract or a tie-in period?
No minimum term. Pricing is monthly and you can leave at any time. If you decide to move on, your records are transferred cleanly and any outstanding work is completed. There is no penalty and nothing owed beyond the current period.
Can you help me decide whether to stay as a sole trader or move to a limited company?
This is one of the more common questions from freelancers whose income is growing. The answer depends on your earnings, your personal circumstances, and whether IR35 is a factor in any of your contracts. We can run through the numbers and give you a clear view of the tax position under each structure so the decision is based on your actual situation rather than a general rule of thumb.
How far in advance will I know what my tax bill is going to be?
With monthly bookkeeping maintained throughout the year, your tax position is visible well before the January deadline. Most clients know their Self Assessment liability by October at the latest, which gives time to set the money aside or consider whether any legitimate planning steps are worth taking before the tax year closes.
Less time on the paperwork. More on the work.
Fixed-fee accounting for freelancers — Self Assessment, bookkeeping, and tax planning handled by an experienced accountant with 20 years of practice. No tie-in, no surprises.
