Financial Controller Services
Financial oversight your business actually needs, without the full-time hire.
Most owner-managed businesses reach a point where a bookkeeper is no longer enough and a full-time financial controller is not yet justified. Stuart Green has provided fractional financial controller and FD-level support since 2005. Fixed monthly fee, cloud-first reporting, and responses within one working day.
- Management accounts delivered on time, every month, with commentary
- Cash flow modelled forward so you can see problems before they arrive
- Budgets, forecasts, and board-level reporting prepared to a professional standard
- Strategic input on decisions that affect your margins and working capital
No long-term contract. If it is not working after three months, you leave with clean books and nothing owed.

Sound familiar?
Growing fast, but your figures are always three weeks behind.
A lot of owner-managed businesses run on instinct because the numbers are never current enough to be useful. The year-end accounts arrive months after the fact. Cash flow is managed by checking the bank balance. And the person who should be watching the bigger picture is still the one chasing invoices. That is a reasonably common situation. It is also avoidable.
- ✕ Month-end figures produced too late to influence the decisions being made
- ✕ No one actively monitoring cash flow until something already feels tight
- ✕ Paying for compliance work when what the business needs is commercial oversight
What a financial controller function looks like
Not a different accountant doing the same compliance work. A genuine finance function: timely management information, forward-looking cash flow, and strategic input from someone who already understands how your business model works.
- ✓ Management accounts delivered promptly with clear commentary you can act on
- ✓ Cash flow modelled and monitored, with early warnings built in as standard
- ✓ Commercial oversight included alongside compliance, not instead of it
- ✓ Fixed monthly fee, scoped to your business, with no surprises on the invoice

What makes this different from a standard accountant
Fractional financial controller support done well looks and feels like an internal finance function. These are the reasons it tends to work.
Two Decades of Commercial Experience
Stuart Green founded Supreme Consulting in 2005 and has worked directly with owner-managed businesses across accounting, cash flow, budgeting, and strategic planning ever since. That depth of practice means you are not explaining how your business model works to someone who has never run a P&L review before. Commercial instinct built over two decades is difficult to replicate with a template.
Reporting That Is Actually Current
Management accounts are only useful if they arrive when decisions are still live. Working on Xero and QuickBooks Online, the reporting cycle is kept tight so your figures reflect this month, not last quarter. Real-time data access means the gap between the business happening and you understanding it shrinks considerably.
Fixed Fee, No Billing Surprises
The scope is agreed upfront and priced as a fixed monthly retainer. There are no hourly rates ticking in the background and no unexpected invoices for a conversation that ran longer than expected. You know exactly what you are paying before the first month begins.
Up and running in four straightforward steps
Most clients are onboarded within two weeks. The process is designed so the transition takes as little of your time as possible.
A No-Obligation Discovery Call
A short conversation to understand your business, your current reporting setup, and what you actually need from a financial controller. You leave the call with a clear picture of whether this is the right fit and what a retainer would cover.
A Clear, Fixed-Fee Proposal
You receive a written proposal covering the scope of services, what is included, and the monthly fee. No hourly estimates, no ranges, no ambiguity. If the scope changes later, that conversation happens before the invoice does.
Onboarding and Cloud Setup
Any migration to Xero or QuickBooks Online is handled for you, along with the integrations needed for clean, automated data. Existing records are reviewed and tidied where necessary so the first management accounts pack is based on accurate figures.
Monthly Reporting, Ongoing
From month one, management accounts arrive on schedule with commentary you can act on. Cash flow is monitored continuously, questions are answered the day you ask them, and your finance function runs as it should. You get on with running the business.
“I’m so grateful for the help received with my small cleaning business. Stuart holds your hand and advises throughout!”
Things people usually ask before getting started
How is a fractional financial controller different from a management accountant?
A management accountant typically produces the monthly numbers. A financial controller does that and then uses the numbers: interpreting variances, stress-testing the cash flow, flagging issues before they become problems, and providing input on decisions that affect the business commercially. The reporting is a by-product of the oversight, not the whole job.
What does this cost and what is included in the monthly fee?
The monthly retainer is scoped and priced to your business size, reporting complexity, and the level of involvement required. A straightforward small limited company needing monthly management accounts and cash flow monitoring will sit at a different price point to a business requiring board packs, investor reporting, and weekly cash flow calls. The scope is defined in writing before you agree to anything, so you know exactly what is covered.
My books are in a bit of a state. Can you still take this on?
Yes. A catch-up or clean-up exercise is a routine part of most onboardings. The first management accounts pack will only be as useful as the underlying data, so getting the records into a reliable condition is the starting point rather than a blocker. The cost of any catch-up work is scoped separately and quoted upfront.
Is there a minimum contract term?
There is no long-term lock-in. Monthly retainers run on a rolling basis with a standard notice period agreed at the outset, typically one month. If things are not working, you give notice and leave with your records in order. The aim is to make staying the obvious choice, not the only one.
Can you work alongside my existing accountant who handles the year-end?
Yes, this is a common arrangement. The financial controller function covers in-year management information, cash flow, and strategic oversight, while year-end statutory accounts and corporation tax are handled separately. We can work alongside an existing compliance accountant without duplication, and the management accounts we produce typically make the year-end process considerably quicker for whoever prepares it.
Will I be able to see my financial position without waiting for a report?
Working on Xero or QuickBooks Online means the underlying data is live and accessible to you at any time. The monthly pack adds structure, commentary, and analysis, but the dashboard view of your position is always current. If something significant changes mid-month, you will be able to see it and flag it rather than waiting until the next scheduled report.
Running a business without current financial information is harder than it needs to be.
A fractional financial controller retainer from Supreme Consulting gives you monthly management accounts, ongoing cash flow oversight, and commercial input from an experienced adviser, on a fixed monthly fee with no long-term contract.
