Sound familiar?

Still unsure what your dormant company actually needs to file?

A company sitting dormant feels like it should require nothing. It does not. Companies House still expects annual accounts and a confirmation statement. HMRC may require notification, and in some cases a CT600. The deadlines do not pause because there is no trading activity, and the penalties for late filing do not either.

  • Companies House deadline approaching and you are not sure what to submit
  • Uncertain whether HMRC needs notifying — and what happens if they do not get told
  • No accountant currently in place, so filings are being left to the last minute or missed

What compliant looks like

The obligations are straightforward once someone who knows them is handling them. Dormant accounts are prepared and filed on time, Companies House is kept up to date, and HMRC is notified correctly. You know what is included and what it costs before anything is started.

  • Dormant accounts prepared and submitted to Companies House ahead of the deadline
  • HMRC dormancy notifications and CT600 obligations confirmed and dealt with correctly
  • Fixed-fee quote provided upfront so there are no surprises when the invoice arrives
  • Confirmation statement filed annually — nothing left outstanding on the public register

What you get

What the fixed fee covers

Dormant company filings come with a clear scope. You know what is included before we start, and there are no charges for questions asked along the way.

01

Dormant Accounts Prepared and Filed

We prepare and submit your dormant company accounts to Companies House in the correct format and within the filing deadline. Abbreviated dormant accounts are a simple but time-sensitive document — missing the deadline carries a penalty that scales with how late they arrive.

Included as standard
02

Confirmation Statement Submitted

Every limited company must file a confirmation statement at least once every twelve months regardless of trading status. We handle the submission, review the details held at Companies House, and flag anything that needs correcting before it goes in.

Included as standard
03

HMRC Dormancy Notification and CT600

Companies House dormancy and HMRC dormancy are defined differently. We assess whether HMRC needs notifying, handle any CT600 obligation, and ensure the company’s tax position is correctly recorded. If anything looks like it may affect the dormant status, you will be told before any filing goes out.

Why Supreme Consulting

What makes the difference in practice

Most accountants will file dormant accounts. Fewer will proactively flag a problem with your dormant status before it becomes a Companies House or HMRC issue.

📅

21 Years of Compliance Experience

Supreme Consulting has been filing accounts, confirmation statements, and dealing with HMRC on behalf of small businesses since 2005. That breadth of experience means dormant company filings are handled correctly the first time, including the edge cases around what counts as dormant under Companies House rules versus HMRC rules.

💷

Fixed Fee, Confirmed Upfront

You receive a clear, fixed-fee proposal before anything is started. There are no hourly rate charges for time spent on your filing, and no invoice that arrives larger than expected. If the scope changes, you are told before any additional work is done.

📬

Replies Within One Working Day

Questions about your dormant company, filing deadlines, or what HMRC actually needs get answered the day you ask them. There is no queue, no ticket system, and no waiting until your next scheduled call to find out something straightforward.

Getting started

Up and running in four steps

Getting your dormant company obligations in order takes less effort than most people expect. The process is straightforward and the first conversation costs nothing.

1

A short discovery call

We start with a no-obligation conversation to understand your company’s current status, when filings are due, and whether anything has been missed. It takes fifteen minutes and you leave knowing exactly what needs to happen next.

2

Clear fixed-fee proposal

You receive a written proposal covering exactly what is included, the filing deadlines, and the cost. Nothing is ambiguous. If you have questions about what is in scope, ask them before you commit to anything.

3

We handle the filing

Once instructed, we prepare the dormant accounts, review the confirmation statement details, assess the HMRC position, and submit everything to the relevant authorities. You sign off on the accounts; we deal with the rest.

4

Filings done, deadline gone

Your company is compliant, the filing history at Companies House is clean, and HMRC has what it needs. The deadline that was sitting somewhere on your to-do list is handled. Which is, frankly, the way it should be.

Questions

Answers to what people usually ask

My company has been dormant for several years — does it still need to file accounts?+

Yes. Companies House requires dormant accounts to be filed annually regardless of how long the company has been inactive. Missing even one year creates a late filing penalty, and the penalty increases the longer the delay. We can assess what is outstanding and get everything up to date before approaching Companies House on your behalf.

What does it cost to have dormant company accounts prepared and filed?+

We charge a fixed fee for dormant company filings, agreed in writing before any work starts. The cost depends on whether the company has any nominal transactions, how many years of filings are outstanding, and whether the HMRC position also needs addressing. You will have a clear figure before we begin — there are no hourly rates applied to your account.

Several years of dormant accounts have been missed — can you still help?+

Yes, this is a common situation. Companies House will show outstanding filings on the public register, and there may be late filing penalties already accrued. We assess the full picture, prepare the overdue accounts in the correct order, and work through the backlog systematically. We will also advise on whether there is any scope to appeal penalties where that is realistic.

Is there a long-term contract if I use Supreme Consulting for my dormant company filings?+

There is no long-term contract. Dormant company work is typically priced per engagement or on an annual basis, and you are not locked in beyond the current year’s scope. If you decide to move to a different accountant, your records are yours and you leave with everything in order.

My company has a small amount of interest on a bank account — does that affect dormant status?+

Under Companies House rules, a company receiving bank interest may still qualify as dormant because interest is not considered a ‘significant accounting transaction’ for these purposes. HMRC applies a different test, so the tax position needs to be assessed separately. We check both before filing to make sure the dormant classification is correct and defensible.

I am thinking of reactivating the company — what do I need to do and when?+

HMRC needs to be notified when a dormant company recommences trading, and you will need to register for Corporation Tax again within three months of becoming active. From that point, full statutory accounts and a CT600 are required. We can advise on the correct reactivation steps, set up cloud accounting from day one, and ensure the transition from dormant to active is handled without gaps.
