Sound familiar?

Still not sure what your tax bill will be?

Many sole traders across the New Forest District piece together their accounts at year-end, chase down receipts, and file their Self Assessment under pressure. The tax liability lands as a surprise rather than a figure they planned for. Meanwhile, the VAT threshold creeps closer with no one keeping an eye on it.

  • ✕ Self Assessment left until January, with records in no particular order
  • ✕ No clear view of turnover relative to the VAT registration threshold
  • ✕ Allowable expenses claimed by guesswork rather than a proper review

What a tidy setup looks like

The compliance work gets handled throughout the year, not crammed into a few weeks before the deadline. Your tax position is visible well in advance, and the advice you receive is grounded in how your business actually works.

  • ✓ Self Assessment prepared and filed with your tax liability known months ahead
  • ✓ VAT turnover tracked quarterly so registration obligations are never a surprise
  • ✓ Expenses reviewed properly so you claim what you are entitled to, nothing more
  • ✓ Fixed-fee pricing agreed upfront so the bill is never a surprise either

Why Supreme Consulting

What sets us apart from a general practice

There are plenty of accountants who will file your return. Fewer who will tell you what your tax bill is going to be before you ask, or flag the VAT threshold before you cross it.

📅

Over 20 years with sole traders

Founded in 2005 and based in Lymington, Supreme Consulting has worked with sole traders and small businesses across the New Forest District for two decades. The common patterns in sole trader accounts, the expenses that get missed, the thresholds that catch people out — these come up regularly enough to be handled without fuss.

💷

Fixed fees, agreed in advance

You receive a clear, scope-based quote before any work begins. There are no hourly rates and no invoice at year-end that is larger than expected. If your circumstances change, pricing is discussed before it affects the bill.

☁️

Cloud records you can actually see

Bookkeeping is done on Xero or QuickBooks Online, which means your figures are current and accessible whenever you need them. You will not be waiting for a year-end summary to find out where you stand.

Getting started

Up and running in four straightforward steps

The switch to a new accountant involves less effort than most people expect. The initial call takes around 30 minutes and there is no obligation to proceed.

1

A no-obligation discovery call

We start with a short conversation to understand your business, what you are currently working with, and what you need. You will leave the call with a clear picture of what working together would look like.

2

A fixed-fee proposal

You receive a written proposal covering exactly what is included, the timelines, and the monthly or annual cost. Nothing is left vague. If the scope is not right, we adjust it before you commit.

3

Onboarding and cloud setup

We handle the transition, including migrating any existing records to cloud accounting software and picking up where your previous accountant left off. If the books need catching up, we will tell you the cost before we start.

4

Your accounts running properly

Deadlines are met, your tax position is visible throughout the year, and questions get answered the day you ask them. Which is, frankly, the way it should be.

Questions

Things sole traders usually ask us

Do you work specifically with sole traders, or are we a small part of a larger practice?+

Sole traders, freelancers, and owner-managed small businesses make up a significant portion of the client base. That means the Self Assessment process, the expense categories relevant to different trades, and the VAT threshold considerations that apply to growing sole traders are not treated as edge cases. They come up regularly and are handled accordingly.

What does it cost and what is included?+

Pricing is fixed and agreed in writing before any work starts. A standard sole trader package covers Self Assessment preparation and filing, a review of allowable expenses, and access to support throughout the year. Bookkeeping, quarterly VAT, and additional advisory work can be added to a monthly retainer. There are no hourly rates and no surprise invoices.

My books are not in great shape. Does that cause problems?+

It is a common starting point. If records need catching up, we will assess the work involved and give you a clear cost before beginning. Most catch-up projects are straightforward once we have access to your bank statements and any existing records. The goal is to get the accounts into a clean state from which the ongoing work can run efficiently.

Is there a minimum contract or a tie-in period?+

There is no long-term contract. Ongoing services are provided on a rolling monthly basis and can be cancelled with reasonable notice. If you decide to leave, we will prepare a handover pack and ensure your records are complete. You will not be left in a difficult position.

I am approaching the VAT threshold. Do I need to register, and when?+

The registration obligation arises once taxable turnover exceeds the current threshold over any rolling 12-month period, not just in the tax year. It is one of the more commonly misunderstood rules for growing sole traders. If you are approaching the threshold, we will calculate your rolling figure, advise on timing, and handle the registration and first returns if required.

Can you tell me what my tax bill is likely to be before the January deadline?+

Yes. With current bookkeeping in place, your tax liability can be estimated well before the payment deadline, typically by October or November for the following January. This gives you time to set funds aside or, where there is scope, consider whether any legitimate tax planning is worth exploring before the tax year closes.

Ready when you are

Less guesswork about your tax. More certainty.
