Financial Controller Services Hampshire

Financial Controller Services Hampshire

Senior financial oversight, without the full-time hire.

Many Hampshire businesses reach a point where the accounts alone are not enough — someone needs to watch the numbers, model the scenarios, and flag problems before they land. Our financial controller service gives you that function on a fixed monthly fee, with no recruitment cost and no employment commitment.

  • Management accounts prepared and interpreted every month
  • Cash flow monitored so shortfalls surface weeks in advance
  • Profitability reviewed at margin level, not just top line
  • Strategic financial input without a full-time salary overhead

No long-term contract. If the arrangement is not adding value after three months, you leave with your records in good order and nothing further owed.

Finance Felt Considerably Less Stressful

“Communication is always prompt, professional, and easy to understand, which makes dealing with finances far less stressful. They take the time to explain things.”

Sound familiar?

Growing business. No one watching the numbers.

At a certain point, annual accounts and a quarterly VAT return stop being sufficient. You are making decisions — on hiring, on pricing, on investment — without reliable monthly numbers to base them on. Cash flow surprises arrive without warning. Margins look fine until they do not. A full-time financial controller would solve it, but the salary is hard to justify at this stage.

  • Month-end figures arrive too late to act on anything useful
  • Cash flow shortfalls surface only when the bank statement arrives
  • No clear view of which parts of the business are actually profitable

What a financial controller actually provides

Regular management accounts, a current cash flow position, and someone who understands your numbers well enough to raise the right questions. The compliance still gets handled. The difference is that the financial picture is visible every month, not once a year.

  • Management accounts delivered monthly, with commentary you can act on
  • Cash flow modelled forward so you see the gap before it opens
  • Margin and profitability reviewed by segment, product, or trade type
  • Fixed monthly fee — no recruitment, no employment costs, no surprises

What you get

What the financial controller service covers

Three core components, delivered on a fixed monthly retainer — management reporting, forward-looking cash flow, and the strategic input that sits behind both.

01

Monthly Management Accounts

Prepared, reviewed, and explained in plain language every month. You will know your revenue, your costs, your margins, and your position against budget before you need to make any significant decision. Waiting until the year-end to find out how the business performed is, frankly, avoidable.

Included as standard
02

Cash Flow Modelling and Monitoring

A rolling cash flow forecast updated with your actual trading data, so shortfalls and surpluses are visible weeks ahead. Knowing the position in advance means you can act — draw down a facility, accelerate a payment, defer a purchase — rather than react after the fact.

Forward-looking, not retrospective
03

Strategic Financial Oversight

Profitability reviews at margin level, budget vs actual analysis, and the kind of commercially grounded input that helps you make better decisions on pricing, headcount, and investment. Available as a standalone advisory layer or combined with bookkeeping and compliance.

Advisory included

Hands-On Guidance for a Small Business

Why Supreme Consulting

What makes this different from a standard accountant

Financial controller support that goes beyond compliance — commercially grounded, cloud-enabled, and priced transparently from day one.

📊

Numbers Interpreted, Not Just Prepared

Most accountants produce management accounts. Fewer explain what they mean for your next decision. Stuart works directly with clients to interpret the figures and raise the questions that matter — margins compressing, overhead creep, debtor days lengthening. The numbers become information you can use rather than a document that sits in a folder.

☁️

Real-Time Visibility via Cloud Tools

Certified in Xero and QuickBooks Online, the financial controller function runs on live cloud data rather than a month-old spreadsheet. Dashboards are configured to your business, so the picture is current when you need it. Integrations with payroll, invoicing, and banking mean the data feeds in without manual re-entry.

💷

Fixed Monthly Fee, Scoped Clearly

The engagement is priced upfront based on the scope of work — management accounts, cash flow modelling, and advisory hours — with no opaque hourly billing that expands without warning. You know the cost before you start. If the scope changes, it is discussed and agreed before any additional charge is raised.

Getting started

Up and running in four straightforward steps

The onboarding process is handled on our side. Most clients are operational within two weeks of their discovery call.

1

A Brief Discovery Call

We start with a no-obligation conversation to understand your business, your current financial setup, and what you actually need from a financial controller. There is no sales script. You will leave the call knowing whether this is the right fit and what it would cost.

2

A Clear, Fixed-Fee Proposal

You receive a written proposal covering exactly what is included — management accounts frequency, cash flow scope, advisory hours — and the monthly fee. No ambiguity about what is in scope and what is not.

3

Onboarding and Cloud Setup

We handle the transition: connecting your accounting software, migrating or tidying historical data, and configuring dashboards to reflect your business structure. You do very little. We do the work.

4

Ongoing Financial Oversight

From month one you have a current financial picture, a forward-looking cash flow, and someone who already knows your numbers when you call. The financial function runs as it should — quietly, reliably, and without you having to chase it.

Questions

Things people usually ask before getting started

What does a financial controller actually do that my current accountant does not?+

A financial controller operates inside the business cycle rather than after it. Where an accountant typically produces year-end accounts and statutory filings, a financial controller produces monthly management accounts, maintains a rolling cash flow forecast, monitors margins, and provides the financial input needed for operational decisions. The work is forward-looking and current, not retrospective. If your current accountant does this already, you may not need this service. If they do not, that is the gap.

What does the financial controller service cost?+

Pricing is fixed monthly and scoped upfront based on what the engagement covers — typically management accounts preparation, cash flow modelling, and an agreed advisory allowance. The fee varies with the size and complexity of your business. You will receive a written proposal before any commitment is made, with the monthly figure stated clearly and no variables that could inflate it later.

My books are not in great shape. Can you still take this on?+

Yes. Most new clients arrive with records that need some degree of attention — gaps in the coding, bank reconciliations that have slipped, or a Xero file that has never been set up properly. We assess what catch-up work is needed during onboarding, price it separately and transparently, and bring the records to a state where meaningful management information can be produced. The management accounts function then runs cleanly from that point forward.

Is there a minimum contract term?+

No long-term contract is required. The arrangement runs on a rolling monthly basis. If it is not working for you, you give notice and we hand back your records in good order. We prefer to keep clients because the service is useful, not because the exit is difficult.

Can I have financial controller support alongside my existing accountant?+

Yes. Some clients retain their existing accountant for year-end and tax work while using Supreme Consulting specifically for the management accounts and financial oversight function. The two roles do not need to sit with the same firm, and the cloud accounting setup means data is accessible to both parties without duplication of effort.

Will I be able to see where the business is most and least profitable?+

That is usually one of the first things a proper financial controller engagement makes visible. Management accounts structured by product line, service type, or cost centre reveal where margin is being made and where it is being absorbed. If your current reporting does not show that breakdown, configuring it is part of the onboarding process.
