Sound familiar?
Not quite sure if you are MTD-compliant?
Making Tax Digital for VAT sounds straightforward until you look into it. Digital record-keeping requirements, bridging software, compatible submissions, penalty points for late or incorrect filings — the detail adds up. Many Brockenhurst businesses are either unsure whether their current setup actually meets HMRC’s rules, or they are filing manually and hoping for the best.
- Unsure whether your bookkeeping software qualifies as MTD-compatible
- Quarterly deadlines arriving before the records are anywhere near ready
- Not registered for MTD VAT yet, and the clock is already running
What compliant looks like
Your VAT obligations are managed end to end — software, records, and submissions. You know what is due, when it is due, and that it has been filed correctly. That is broadly what compliance should feel like.
- Compatible cloud software confirmed and configured before your next filing date
- Records kept current so quarterly deadlines are never a scramble
- MTD registration completed with HMRC if you are not yet enrolled
- Fixed-fee pricing agreed upfront — no clock-watching, no billing surprises

MTD VAT compliance, start to finish
From initial setup and HMRC registration through to quarterly submissions and ongoing record-keeping, the full MTD VAT requirement is covered under one fixed fee.
MTD Registration and Software Setup
If you are not yet enrolled, we handle HMRC registration on your behalf and configure compatible software — Xero or QuickBooks Online — so your digital records are structured correctly from day one. There is no period where your VAT position is uncovered or at risk.
Included as standardQuarterly VAT Returns via MTD
Each quarter, your VAT return is prepared from your digital records and submitted directly to HMRC through the MTD gateway. You receive the figures in plain English before anything is filed, so there are no unexpected amounts hitting your account.
Every quarterOngoing Digital Record-Keeping
MTD requires more than just filing — the records themselves must be kept digitally and linked to your submission. We maintain your bookkeeping to the standard HMRC requires, so penalty points for record-keeping failures are not a concern you need to carry.
ContinuousConsistent results across different businesses
Sole traders, limited companies, and small businesses across Hampshire have found the same thing: compliance handled properly, communication that makes sense, and pricing that holds.

What makes the difference in practice
There are plenty of firms that will file your VAT return. Fewer will set up your records correctly, keep them current, and be available when something changes.
MTD-ready software from day one
We are certified in Xero and QuickBooks Online — both HMRC-recognised MTD-compatible platforms. Your digital records are structured correctly before the first submission, which means no retrospective corrections and no bridging software holding things together with string.
Over 20 years handling VAT
Supreme Consulting has been dealing with VAT compliance since 2005, through every rule change HMRC has introduced since. MTD is not a new specialism we have bolted on — VAT returns and digital submissions are a core part of what we do every week for clients across Hampshire.
Fixed fee, agreed before we start
Your MTD VAT service is priced as a fixed monthly or quarterly fee. No hourly billing, no charges for a quick question, no invoice that bears no resemblance to what you expected. The scope is agreed upfront and the price holds.
Up and running in four steps
Most clients are fully MTD-compliant and have their first quarter filed within a few weeks of getting in touch. The process is designed to require as little from you as possible.
A brief discovery call
We start with a no-obligation conversation about your current VAT setup — whether you are already filing under MTD, still using bridging software, or not yet registered at all. It takes about twenty minutes and you will know exactly what needs to happen next.
A clear, fixed-fee proposal
You receive a written proposal setting out the scope, the price, and what is included. No estimates, no hourly rates, no caveats buried in small print. If the scope changes, we tell you before we do anything.
Software setup and HMRC registration
We handle the technical side — connecting your cloud software to HMRC’s MTD gateway, importing your existing records if needed, and ensuring your digital links are in place. You do not need to navigate HMRC’s online services yourself.
Quarterly compliance, on schedule
From that point, your VAT returns are prepared and filed each quarter without you needing to chase or prompt. You see the figures before they go in, and you know the deadline has been met. Which is, frankly, the way it should work.
“I’m so grateful for the help received with my small cleaning business. Stuart holds your hand and advises throughout!”
Things people usually ask us
Does my current software actually qualify for MTD VAT, or do I need to switch?
Not all bookkeeping software meets HMRC’s MTD requirements, and some businesses are using bridging software as a workaround that adds risk rather than removing it. We review your current setup at the start and confirm whether it qualifies or whether a switch to Xero or QuickBooks Online makes more sense. If a migration is needed, we handle it.
What does MTD VAT compliance cost, and what is included?
Pricing depends on the complexity of your VAT position — turnover, transaction volume, VAT scheme (standard rate, flat rate, annual accounting), and whether bookkeeping is included or handled separately. We agree a fixed fee before starting, which covers quarterly preparation and submission, digital record-keeping, and any correspondence with HMRC relating to your VAT account. There are no hourly charges on top.
My records are a bit behind. Is that a problem before you can take over?
It is a common situation and not an obstacle. We can pick up from wherever things currently stand, carry out a catch-up to bring your digital records current, and then move into the standard quarterly cycle. Any catch-up work is quoted separately and agreed before we begin, so you know the cost upfront.
Is there a minimum contract or lock-in period?
There is no long-term contract. We work on a rolling monthly or quarterly basis, and you can give notice at any point. If you leave, your records are fully up to date, your logins are yours, and there is nothing outstanding. We have a 99% client retention rate, but that is because the work is done well, not because leaving is difficult.
What happens if HMRC queries my VAT return or issues a penalty notice?
Any HMRC correspondence relating to submissions we have filed is handled by us. We review the notice, respond on your behalf where appropriate, and advise you on next steps. If a penalty has been issued in error, we will challenge it. If there is a genuine issue, we will tell you plainly what it is and what it will take to resolve it.
Can you help me choose the right VAT scheme for my business?
Yes. The standard rate scheme is not always the most efficient option — the flat rate scheme, annual accounting scheme, or cash accounting scheme may reduce your liability or simplify your administration depending on your business type and turnover. We review your position at the outset and flag if a different scheme would work better for you.
