Sound familiar?

CIS admin piling up while you price the next job?

Running a construction business in Hampshire means the work rarely stops long enough to get on top of the paperwork. Monthly CIS returns, subcontractor verifications, deduction statements — each one has a deadline, and each one carries a penalty if it slips. For many contractors, the scheme is set up once and then quietly mismanaged for years, until HMRC writes.

  • Monthly CIS returns filed late or missed entirely when the site gets busy
  • Subcontractors paid before being properly verified with HMRC
  • Deduction statements not issued, leaving subcontractors unable to reclaim their tax

What a tidy CIS setup looks like

When the scheme is managed properly, the monthly admin takes minutes rather than mornings. Deadlines are met, subcontractors are verified before first payment, and your year-end reconciliation does not produce any surprises.

  • Monthly CIS returns submitted before the 19th, without chasing you for data
  • Every subcontractor verified through HMRC before deductions are applied
  • Deduction statements issued to subcontractors each month, correctly and on time
  • Fixed monthly fee — you know the cost before the work starts

What you get

CIS compliance, covered end to end

Whether you are a contractor deducting from subbies or a subcontractor looking to reclaim, the service covers the full CIS cycle — verified, filed, and reconciled.

01

Monthly CIS Return Filing

Your monthly contractor return is prepared and submitted to HMRC by the 19th of each month. Deductions are calculated at the correct rate for each subcontractor’s verification status, and the submission record is kept in your cloud file. No missed deadlines, no £100 penalty notices.

Included as standard
02

Subcontractor Verification and Statements

Every new subcontractor is verified with HMRC before their first payment is processed. Monthly deduction statements are issued as required, giving your subbies what they need to reclaim at Self Assessment. This is one of the most commonly neglected obligations under the scheme.

Included as standard
03

Year-End Reconciliation and Tax Planning

At year end, your CIS deductions are reconciled against payroll records and your CT600 or Self Assessment return. If you have suffered deductions as a subcontractor, we ensure they are offset correctly against your tax liability. Where eligible, we can also advise on gross payment status applications.

Why Supreme Consulting

What makes the difference for construction clients

CIS is a specific scheme with specific rules. The difference between an accountant who knows it well and one who handles it occasionally tends to show up in the small details.

🏗️

CIS handled as routine, not occasionally

Supreme Consulting works with construction contractors and subcontractors as part of its regular client base. Verification rates, gross payment status thresholds, and the interaction between CIS and Self Assessment are handled as standard, not treated as edge cases. You will not need to explain how the scheme works before getting a useful answer.

📅

Over twenty years of hands-on practice

Founded in 2005, Supreme Consulting has worked with small businesses and contractors across Hampshire for over two decades. That depth of experience means the advice is grounded in what actually happens in practice, not what the textbook says should happen. Established long enough to have seen most situations at least once.

💷

Fixed fees, no billing surprises

CIS compliance is quoted at a fixed monthly fee covering your agreed scope of work. There are no hourly rates and no invoice that varies based on how many subcontractors you brought on that month. If the scope changes, the price is discussed before the work is done.

Getting started

Up and running in four straightforward steps

The switch takes less effort than most contractors expect. Most of the work happens on our side, not yours.

1

A conversation about your setup

We start with a no-obligation call to understand your business — how many subcontractors you work with, whether you operate as contractor, subcontractor, or both, and what your current filing situation looks like. No forms, no preparation required.

2

A fixed-fee proposal

You receive a written proposal covering exactly what is included, what it costs, and when it starts. Nothing is vague. If you have questions about the scope, they get answered before anything is signed.

3

We take over the admin

We handle the handover from your previous accountant if there is one, get access to your HMRC agent account, and set up your records in the cloud. Your existing filing history is reviewed to confirm everything is current before we take on the first return.

4

CIS runs in the background

Monthly returns go in before the deadline. Subcontractors get their statements. You get a confirmation each month and a message if anything needs your attention. The administration is off your plate and the compliance risk is considerably reduced.

Questions

What contractors usually want to know first

Do you handle both the contractor and subcontractor sides of CIS?+

Yes. If you operate as a contractor deducting tax from subcontractors, we handle monthly returns, verification, and deduction statements. If you are a subcontractor having tax deducted at source, we ensure those deductions are reconciled and reclaimed correctly at Self Assessment or through your corporation tax return. Many construction businesses sit on both sides of the scheme at the same time, and that is handled without it becoming complicated.

What does CIS compliance cost on a fixed-fee basis?+

Pricing depends on the number of subcontractors you work with and whether we are also handling payroll, bookkeeping, or year-end accounts alongside the CIS work. A standalone monthly CIS return service starts at a fixed monthly fee agreed upfront. You will receive a written quote covering the full scope before anything starts. There are no variable charges based on how many returns or deduction statements are issued in a given month.

My CIS returns are behind — can you get them sorted?+

Catch-up work on CIS is something we handle regularly. The first step is reviewing what has been filed, identifying any gaps, and establishing whether any late filing penalties have accrued. In many cases, penalties can be appealed where there is a reasonable excuse. We quote for the catch-up separately from the ongoing monthly service, so you know the full cost before we start.

Is there a long-term contract or minimum term?+

There is no lock-in. The arrangement operates on a rolling monthly basis with a short notice period. If you decide to move on, your records are kept in good order and passed across to whoever takes over without fuss. The aim is to make staying easy, not leaving difficult.

Can you help with gross payment status for CIS?+

Yes. Gross payment status allows qualifying subcontractors to be paid without deduction, which is worth pursuing if your business meets the turnover and compliance tests. We can review whether your business is likely to qualify, handle the application with HMRC, and monitor the annual compliance review that keeps the status in place. It is not available to everyone, but it is worth checking.

How do CIS deductions interact with my Self Assessment or corporation tax?+

If you are a sole trader subcontractor, CIS deductions suffered during the year are offset against your Self Assessment tax liability. If you operate through a limited company, they are offset against your corporation tax bill, and in some cases a repayment can be claimed in-year rather than waiting for year end. Getting this right requires the deductions to be properly recorded throughout the year, which is part of why clean monthly records matter.
