Accountant For Freelance Creatives

Accountant for Freelance Creatives

Your creative business finances, sorted.

Freelance creatives rarely have predictable income, tidy books, or much enthusiasm for HMRC deadlines. We deal with the compliance, keep your tax position visible throughout the year, and answer questions the day you ask them. Fixed monthly fee, no hidden costs, replies within one working day.

  • Know your tax bill well before the January deadline arrives
  • Equipment, software, and home office costs claimed correctly
  • Self Assessment filed on time with full review of allowances
  • Cloud bookkeeping on Xero or QuickBooks — no spreadsheet chaos

No long-term contract. If it is not working after three months, you leave with clean books and nothing owed.

Sound familiar?

Freelance finances rarely manage themselves.

Irregular invoices, fluctuating income, and a growing list of expenses you are not sure are claimable — it adds up. Most freelance creatives reach January with a rough idea of what they owe and not much more. The books are somewhere between adequate and concerning, and finding a reliable accountant who actually understands the way you work is harder than it should be.

  • No clear idea what this year’s tax bill will actually be
  • Unsure which expenses are allowable — equipment, software, courses, home office
  • Self Assessment left until the last moment because the books are not in order

What sorted looks like

Your compliance is handled on time, your expenses are reviewed properly, and your tax position is visible throughout the year rather than revealed in a panic each January. The admin is off your plate.

  • Tax liability monitored and visible throughout the year, no January surprises
  • Allowable expenses reviewed in full — equipment, subscriptions, home working, training
  • Self Assessment prepared early, filed on time, with all reliefs considered
  • Fixed monthly fee covers the work — no surprise invoices at year end

What the monthly fee covers

Core compliance handled as standard, with cloud bookkeeping and proactive tax planning available as part of your package.

01

Self Assessment and Personal Tax

You will know your tax liability well ahead of the filing deadline, with time to plan if needed. No last-minute scramble.

Included as standard
02

Bookkeeping and Cloud Accounting

Monthly bookkeeping on Xero or QuickBooks Online keeps your records current and your income and expenses properly categorised. You get a clear picture of where you stand without having to maintain a spreadsheet or chase receipts at year end. We handle the migration if you are switching from something else.

Available as add-on
03

Tax Planning and VAT Advice

If your income is approaching the VAT threshold, you will know about it before it becomes a registration obligation. We review your structure annually and flag any planning opportunities — whether that is timing income, claiming additional reliefs, or considering a limited company as your business grows.

Why Supreme Consulting

What makes the difference in practice

Twenty-one years of working with sole traders and small businesses means we already understand the questions you are likely to have before you ask them.

🎨

No explaining how creative work pays

Irregular invoices, project-based income, and a mix of clients paying at different times — none of that requires a lengthy explanation before you get a useful answer. We work with freelancers across design, photography, writing, and other creative disciplines and understand how the income and expense patterns actually look. Your situation is not unusual to us.

💷

Fixed fee, no clock running

Everything within scope is covered by your monthly fee. You can ask a question without wondering whether it will show up on an invoice. Pricing is agreed upfront, in writing, before we start — and if your needs change, we discuss it openly rather than sending a surprise bill.

☁️

Cloud accounting, current books

We are certified in Xero and QuickBooks Online. Your records are current, accessible, and properly categorised — which means your tax position is visible year-round rather than pieced together once a year. If you are not yet on cloud accounting, we handle the setup and migration.

Getting started

Up and running in four steps

Most new clients are fully set up and their first period of work underway within two to three weeks of their initial call.

1

A short discovery call

We start with a no-obligation conversation — usually around 20 minutes — to understand your current setup, the services you need, and what you want from an accountant. No preparation required on your part.

2

A clear, fixed-fee proposal

You receive a written proposal covering exactly what is included, the monthly fee, and the timeline. No ambiguous scope, no opaque hourly rates. You decide whether it works for you.

3

Onboarding and cloud setup

We handle the transition from your previous accountant or software, migrate your records to the cloud if needed, and get everything in order. The administrative side of switching is on us.

4

Your finances, running quietly

Compliance is handled on time, your books are current, and your tax position is visible. Questions get answered the day you ask them. Your creative work gets your attention — the finances get ours.

Questions

Things freelance creatives usually ask

Do you understand how freelance creative income actually works — different clients, late payments, project fees?+

Yes. Freelance income rarely arrives in neat monthly amounts, and the expense side — software subscriptions, equipment, courses, studio costs, travel to shoots or client meetings — has its own logic. We work with creative freelancers regularly and do not need the basic context explained before giving you a useful answer. If your income comes from a mix of direct clients and platforms, we know how to account for both.

What does it cost and what is actually included?+

Pricing is fixed and agreed before we start, based on what you need. A sole trader Self Assessment package covers your annual return, a review of allowable expenses, and access to support through the year. Bookkeeping, VAT, and ongoing advisory can be added to a monthly retainer. You will receive a written proposal with the exact scope and fee before committing to anything.

My records are a bit of a mess. Is that a problem?+

It is a common starting point. Catch-up bookkeeping — bringing records up to date from a period of neglect — is something we handle regularly. We will assess the state of things during the discovery call and include a clear catch-up cost in your proposal if it is needed. Arriving with books in some state of disarray and leaving with considerably less to worry about is, frankly, how many client relationships begin.

Am I locked into a contract?+

There is no long-term lock-in. Services are provided on a monthly basis and you can give notice at any time. If you decide to leave, we will ensure your records are complete and hand everything over cleanly. You will not find yourself tied in for a year because you asked a question in month two.

I am considering moving from sole trader to a limited company. Can you advise on that?+

Yes. It is a question we get fairly often from freelancers whose income has grown. Whether incorporation makes sense depends on your profit level, how you want to extract income, and your broader circumstances. We will give you a straightforward comparison of the tax position in both structures so you can make an informed decision — not a generic recommendation.

How do I know what my tax bill will be before January?+

If we are handling your bookkeeping on a monthly basis, your income and expenses are current throughout the year and your estimated tax liability is visible at any point. Even if you are on an annual Self Assessment-only package, we will produce an estimate well ahead of the deadline so you can set aside the right amount. A surprise tax bill in January is largely avoidable when the records are in order.
