Freelancer Accountant

Freelancer Accountant

Your freelance tax and admin, dealt with properly.

Most freelancers are spending Sunday evenings on tax they could have avoided and filing returns without knowing whether the figure is right. Supreme Consulting has worked with self-employed individuals since 2005, covering self assessment, bookkeeping, and IR35. Fixed-fee pricing, plain-English advice, and replies within one working day.

  • Your tax bill known months before January, not days
  • Allowable expenses identified and claimed correctly from the start
  • IR35 status reviewed so you are not caught out mid-contract
  • Books current and cloud-based, with no year-end scramble

No long-term contract. If it is not working after three months, you leave with clean books and nothing owed.

Sound familiar?

Still guessing what your tax bill will be?

Freelancing means your income varies, your expenses are scattered across different projects, and HMRC’s deadlines do not move for anyone. Most freelancers reach January knowing roughly what they earned but not confidently what they owe. The gap between those two numbers is where penalties and surprises live.

  • ✕ Tax return filed in a hurry, with expenses probably missed
  • ✕ No clarity on IR35 status or how a contract affects your position
  • ✕ VAT threshold creeping up without anyone monitoring it

What a properly supported freelancer looks like

Your accounts are current, your tax liability is visible well before the deadline, and someone who already understands how freelance income works is available when questions come up.

  • ✓ Self assessment filed accurately, with all allowable expenses properly claimed
  • ✓ IR35 reviewed before you sign, not after the contract ends
  • ✓ VAT threshold monitored quarterly, with registration handled if you need it
  • ✓ Fixed-fee pricing, quoted in advance, with nothing added at year-end

Why Supreme Consulting

What sets this firm apart for freelancers

There are plenty of accountants who will file your return. Fewer will tell you in March what your January bill is likely to be, or flag a VAT problem before it becomes one.

📅

21 Years Working With Self-Employed Clients

Supreme Consulting has been working with freelancers, sole traders, and owner-managed businesses since 2005. That means the common patterns, the IR35 grey areas, the expenses that get missed, and the planning that most freelancers do not know is available to them are already familiar territory. You will not need to explain how freelance income works before getting a useful answer.

💷

Fixed Fee, Quoted Before You Commit

The price is agreed upfront based on your situation, not estimated and adjusted later. There are no hourly rates accumulating in the background and no invoice surprises at year-end. If your scope changes, the fee is discussed before any work starts.

Cloud Accounting That Actually Works for You

Xero and QuickBooks Online give you a clear view of your income and outgoings in real time, from wherever you are working. Setup and migration are handled for you, including app integrations that automate the parts of bookkeeping that freelancers find most time-consuming. You get visibility without the admin overhead.

Getting started

Up and running in four steps

Most clients are fully onboarded and working with clean, cloud-based records within a couple of weeks. The process is straightforward and the heavy lifting is on our side.

1

A no-obligation discovery call

We start with a conversation about your current setup, your income structure, and what you need from an accountant. There is no script and no sales pitch. You will leave knowing whether we are a good fit and what working together would look like.

2

A clear, fixed-fee proposal

You receive a written proposal setting out exactly what is included, what the monthly fee covers, and any one-off costs. Nothing is vague and nothing is subject to change without discussion. You decide whether to proceed with full information.

3

Onboarding and cloud setup

We handle the transition from your previous accountant or your spreadsheet. Records are migrated to Xero or QuickBooks Online, integrations are configured, and any catch-up bookkeeping is scoped and priced separately if needed. You do very little at this stage.

4

Ongoing support, no chasing required

Your books are maintained monthly, your deadlines are managed, and questions are answered the day you ask them. Your tax position is visible throughout the year, which means January is a date in the diary rather than a source of dread.

Questions

What freelancers usually ask before getting started

Do you understand how freelance income works, including IR35, expenses, and sole trader versus limited company decisions?+

Yes, and those questions come up regularly. IR35 assessments, the dividend and salary split for director-shareholders, and the decision between sole trader and limited company structure are all things we work through with freelancers at different stages. The tax position varies considerably depending on how you work and what you earn, and it is worth reviewing properly rather than assuming the default arrangement is the most efficient one.

What does it cost, and what is included?+

Pricing is fixed-fee and quoted in advance based on your situation. A self assessment return for a straightforward sole trader is scoped differently from a limited company director who also needs bookkeeping and payroll. You will receive a written proposal before committing, and the fee does not change mid-year unless your scope does. There are no hourly rates and no end-of-year additions.

My books are a bit of a mess and I am behind on my returns. Can you still help?+

This is fairly common, particularly with freelancers who have been managing their own records between client work. Catch-up bookkeeping and late return filing are both available. The cost of getting up to date is scoped and quoted before any work starts, so you know what you are committing to. Most clients who arrive behind leave the onboarding process with everything current and a clear system in place.

Is there a minimum contract period or am I locked in?+

There is no long-term contract. Monthly retainers run month to month, and you can leave with reasonable notice. If things are not working, you take your records with you in a format you can use, and there is nothing outstanding. The aim is to be genuinely useful, which is a better retention mechanism than a contract clause.

I might be approaching the VAT threshold. Do you monitor that?+

Yes. If your turnover is growing, keeping an eye on where you sit relative to the VAT registration threshold is part of the ongoing service. You will not find out after the fact that you crossed it without anyone flagging it. If registration becomes necessary, the process and the implications for your pricing are walked through clearly in advance.

Is there anything I can do now to reduce my tax bill, or is it too late once the year has ended?+

There is usually more planning available mid-year than most freelancers realise. Pension contributions, timing of income, allowable expenses, and structure decisions all affect the final liability, and some of them need to be acted on before the tax year closes. The further in advance you are thinking about it, the more options are available. That is one reason why knowing your position throughout the year, rather than discovering it in January, is worth the effort.
