Accountants It Contractors

Accountants for IT Contractors

Your IT contracting finances, handled properly.

Most IT contractors are running a limited company, billing through a PSC, and thinking about IR35 on every new contract. The compliance is manageable when someone who already understands contractor structures handles it. Fixed-fee pricing, responses within one working day, and over 20 years working with owner-managed limited companies.

  • IR35 status reviewed before you sign your next contract
  • Dividend and salary mix optimised each tax year
  • Corporation tax and year-end accounts filed on time, without chasing
  • Real-time visibility of what you owe HMRC, months in advance

No long-term contract. If the arrangement is not working after three months, you leave with clean, cloud-based books and nothing owed.

Sound familiar?

Still not sure where you stand on IR35?

IT contractors working through a limited company face a specific set of pressures that a general accountant often glosses over. IR35 status shifts with every new contract. Dividend planning needs revisiting each April. And the year-end tax bill has a habit of arriving larger than expected when no one has been watching the numbers quarterly.

  • ✕ IR35 status unclear on your current or upcoming contract
  • ✕ Dividend and salary split guessed rather than planned each year
  • ✕ No idea what your corporation tax bill will be until the year is over

What a well-run contractor setup looks like

The compliance side runs quietly in the background. IR35 is reviewed before contracts are signed. Your dividend and salary mix is set at the start of each tax year, not after the fact. And your tax position is visible throughout the year, not just when the accountant calls with the bill.

  • ✓ IR35 reviewed on each contract so you know your position before you start
  • ✓ Optimal dividend and salary structure agreed at the start of each tax year
  • ✓ Quarterly management accounts showing your tax liability as it builds
  • ✓ Fixed monthly fee covering all core compliance — no surprise invoices mid-year

Hands-On Advice Throughout the Process

Why Supreme Consulting

What sets us apart for IT contractors

Over 20 years working with owner-managed limited companies, contractors, and freelancers. These are the specifics that matter to IT contractors in particular.

📋

IR35 without the lengthy briefing

You will not need to spend the first hour explaining how PSCs, substitution clauses, and mutuality of obligation work. IR35 has been part of contractor accounting since it was introduced, and the relevant tests are well understood here. A contract review starts with the right questions, not a Google search.

📅

Over 20 years with limited companies

Supreme Consulting has been working with owner-managed limited companies since 2005. The dividend and salary decisions, the corporation tax planning, the timing of extractions — these are routine, not occasional. That depth of practice shows in the quality of advice you receive.

💷

Fixed price, agreed upfront

Contractors typically move between contracts, change rates, and occasionally pause. The fee is agreed based on your setup and does not change without your agreement. You will know the annual cost before the engagement starts, which is the way it should be.

Getting started

Up and running in four steps

The process is straightforward. Most clients are fully onboarded within two weeks of the initial call, with all records migrated and compliance up to date.

1

A short discovery call

A no-obligation conversation covering your current contract setup, IR35 position, and what you need from an accountant. You will not be sold to — the call is genuinely to understand whether there is a fit and what the right scope of service looks like.

2

A clear, fixed-fee proposal

You receive a written proposal with the exact scope of services, the annual and monthly cost, and what is included. Nothing ambiguous. If you want to adjust the scope, that conversation happens before you sign anything.

3

Onboarding and cloud migration

Your records are migrated to Xero or QuickBooks Online and any catch-up bookkeeping is handled. If you are switching from another accountant, the handover is managed without you needing to mediate between the two firms.

4

Compliance running as it should

Deadlines are tracked and met without reminders from you. Your tax position is visible throughout the year. Questions get answered the day you ask them. Which is, frankly, what having an accountant should have felt like all along.

Questions

Common questions from IT contractors

Do you actually understand IR35, PSC structures, and how contractor engagements work?+

Yes — IR35 has been part of contractor accounting since 2000 and the framework is well understood here. A contract review covers the key tests: substitution, control, and mutuality of obligation. If your end client operates inside-IR35 under Chapter 10 rules, that situation is handled differently and will be explained clearly before you decide whether to accept the engagement.

What does it actually cost for a contractor limited company?+

Pricing is fixed and agreed before the engagement starts. A typical IT contractor package covering year-end accounts, CT600, Self Assessment, and quarterly compliance support sits on a monthly retainer. The exact figure depends on your turnover, whether you need VAT returns, and whether bookkeeping is included. A tailored quote is provided after the initial call, with no obligation.

My books are behind and I have not filed my last set of accounts. Can you still take me on?+

Yes, and this is a fairly common starting point. The catch-up work is scoped and costed separately from the ongoing retainer so you know upfront what it will take to get current. Once everything is in order, the ongoing service runs at the standard fixed monthly fee.

Is there a minimum contract term or a penalty for leaving?+

There is no long-term contract and no exit penalty. A reasonable notice period applies, during which your records are kept in good order and handed over cleanly. You will not be left without files or access to your own accounting data.

I work through an umbrella company on some contracts and my own PSC on others. Can you handle both?+

Yes. The combination of umbrella income and PSC income is a specific scenario that affects both your Self Assessment and your dividend planning for the year. Both income streams are accounted for correctly, and the interaction between them is factored into your personal tax return and any in-year planning advice.

How far in advance will I know what my tax bill is going to be?+

With quarterly management accounts and ongoing bookkeeping, your corporation tax liability is visible throughout the year, not just when the accounts are finalised. Your personal tax position — including dividend income and any employment income from umbrella work — is reviewed before the Self Assessment deadline so the figure is known well in advance of January.
