Sound familiar?

VAT getting harder to keep on top of?

For many Hythe businesses, VAT starts out manageable and then quietly becomes the compliance task nobody enjoys. Turnover creeps toward the registration threshold with no clear view of when or whether to register. MTD requirements add another layer. And quarterly deadlines have a way of arriving faster than expected when the underlying records are not quite where they should be.

  • Unsure whether your turnover is approaching the VAT registration threshold
  • MTD submissions not yet set up or consistently filed through compatible software
  • Quarterly VAT returns taking up time your business cannot spare

What handled looks like

Your VAT position is monitored, your filings go in on time, and you know what VAT scheme you are on and why. The compliance side runs in the background while you get on with the business.

  • Your VAT threshold is tracked — registration handled at the right time, not after the fact
  • MTD-compatible cloud accounting set up and maintained, submissions filed every quarter
  • VAT returns prepared and filed for you, with no last-minute scramble
  • Fixed-fee pricing agreed upfront — you know the cost before any work begins

What you get

VAT services covered in your fixed fee

From quarterly filings to registration advice and scheme selection, the VAT work is handled end to end. No surprises on scope, no surprises on cost.

01

Quarterly VAT Returns Filed

Your VAT return is prepared from your cloud records each quarter and submitted to HMRC before the deadline. Any queries or discrepancies are flagged to you plainly, with a clear explanation rather than a request to figure it out yourself.

Included as standard
02

MTD Compliance and Cloud Setup

Making Tax Digital requires VAT submissions through compatible software, and the setup needs to be done properly once rather than patched repeatedly. We migrate your records to Xero or QuickBooks Online, connect the MTD link to HMRC, and keep it running correctly quarter to quarter.

VAT Registration and Scheme Advice

If your turnover is approaching the registration threshold, the timing and method of registration matter. We advise on the right VAT scheme for your business — whether that is standard, flat rate, cash accounting, or annual accounting — and handle the registration with HMRC on your behalf.

Why Supreme Consulting

What makes the difference for Hythe businesses

There are plenty of accountants who will file your VAT return. Fewer will tell you when you are on the wrong scheme, flag a threshold breach before it becomes a problem, or explain the MTD rules without resorting to HMRC’s own guidance documents.

📅

21 Years of VAT Experience

Supreme Consulting has been advising small businesses on VAT since 2005. That covers multiple changes to the VAT threshold, the introduction of MTD, and the full range of scheme types across different sectors. The advice you receive is grounded in practice, not theory.

☁️

MTD-Ready from Day One

Xero and QuickBooks Online are built into how we work, not bolted on as an afterthought. Your VAT records are maintained digitally, the MTD link to HMRC is properly configured, and submissions go through compatible software every quarter without you needing to think about it.

💷

Fixed Fee, Agreed in Advance

VAT work is priced on a fixed-fee basis, scoped to your business. You know what the quarterly compliance costs before we start, and there are no additional charges for answering VAT questions that come up between filings.

Getting started

Up and running in four straightforward steps

Most clients are set up within a week of their first call. The transition from a previous accountant, or from doing it yourself, is handled on our side.

1

A Brief Discovery Call

We start with a short, no-obligation call to understand your business, your current VAT position, and what specifically needs to be sorted. You will not be asked to prepare anything in advance.

2

A Clear, Fixed-Fee Proposal

You receive a written proposal covering the exact scope of VAT services, the fixed price, and what is and is not included. No hourly estimates. No open-ended scope.

3

Onboarding and Cloud Setup

We handle the migration to cloud accounting, set up the MTD connection to HMRC, and bring your VAT records into order. If you are switching from a previous accountant, we manage that handover.

4

VAT Running as It Should

Quarterly deadlines are met, your threshold is monitored, and you receive a plain summary after each filing. VAT becomes a background process rather than a quarterly source of mild anxiety.

Questions

Things Hythe businesses usually ask first

Do you handle VAT for businesses across all the common sectors in Hythe?+

Yes. We work with sole traders, limited companies, construction contractors, hospitality operators, e-commerce sellers, and professional service providers, among others. Each sector has its own VAT considerations — partial exemption in some cases, the reverse charge in construction, and specific rules for online marketplaces — and we deal with them as a matter of routine rather than as an unusual request.

What does VAT compliance cost, and what exactly is included?+

VAT services are priced on a fixed-fee basis, agreed before any work begins. The fee is scoped to your specific situation — your turnover, the number of transactions, your VAT scheme, and whether cloud accounting setup is needed. There are no hourly rates and no additional charges for questions that arise between quarterly filings. You will receive a written quote after your discovery call.

My VAT records are not in great shape. Can you still help?+

Yes, and it is a common starting point. We carry out a catch-up exercise to bring your records into order before taking on the ongoing quarterly work. The cost of that catch-up is quoted separately and transparently, so you know what you are agreeing to before we begin. Once your records are current, the ongoing compliance is straightforward.

Is there a minimum contract or a tie-in period?+

No minimum contract. VAT compliance services operate on a rolling monthly basis, and you can give notice at any time. If you leave, you leave with your VAT records complete, your HMRC submissions up to date, and nothing outstanding. We would rather earn the retention than contractually enforce it.

We have just crossed the VAT registration threshold. What happens next?+

VAT registration needs to be completed within 30 days of the end of the month in which you exceeded the threshold, or you may face penalties backdated to when you should have registered. We handle the registration with HMRC, advise on the most appropriate VAT scheme for your business, and ensure your invoicing and bookkeeping are set up correctly from the point of registration.

Could we be on a more advantageous VAT scheme than we currently are?+

Quite possibly. The flat rate scheme benefits certain service businesses where input VAT is low. Cash accounting suits businesses with slower-paying customers. Annual accounting can simplify cashflow planning for businesses with predictable turnover. We review your VAT scheme as part of onboarding and flag if a different approach would reduce your liability or administrative burden.
