Sound familiar?

Starting a company is straightforward. The admin, less so.

Most founders spend the first year focused on winning work, which is exactly right. Then the letters from HMRC start arriving and the picture becomes more complicated. Confirmation statements, corporation tax deadlines, VAT registration thresholds, director self assessment — each one is manageable in isolation, but arriving together with no prior warning, they have a way of creating real pressure.

  • ✕ Unsure which filings are due and when in your first year
  • ✕ Books kept in a spreadsheet that no one else can interpret
  • ✕ No clear picture of your tax bill until it is almost due

What a settled first year looks like

With the compliance side handled from the start, your attention stays where it belongs. Deadlines are tracked, records are current, and you know your numbers.

  • ✓ Every filing deadline tracked and met — no surprises from HMRC
  • ✓ Bookkeeping moved to Xero or QuickBooks, clean and accessible
  • ✓ Corporation tax liability calculated and communicated well in advance
  • ✓ Fixed monthly fee — know exactly what your accountant costs

Cloud Bookkeeping From Day One

We set up Xero or QuickBooks Online and keep your records current throughout the year. You get a clear view of income and expenditure without needing to maintain a spreadsheet yourself.

Monthly or quarterly
03

Director Self Assessment and Tax Planning

Directors have their own filing obligations, and knowing your personal tax position early makes salary and dividend decisions considerably simpler. We handle your SA100 and flag planning opportunities as they arise.

Why Supreme Consulting

Why founders in Brockenhurst choose us

There are several accountancy practices in Hampshire. These are the reasons clients starting new businesses tend to land here.

📅

Over 20 years with small businesses

Founded in 2005, Stuart Green has worked directly with owner-managed companies across every stage from incorporation to exit. That means fewer questions you have to answer and more advice that is specific to where you actually are. A startup in its first year has very different needs from one in year five, and the guidance reflects that.

☁️

Cloud accounting from the start

Setting up Xero or QuickBooks Online properly at the beginning saves considerable effort later. We handle the setup, connect your bank feeds, and make sure your records are accurate from month one. You get real-time visibility without managing it yourself.

💷

Fixed pricing, no billing surprises

Every quote covers a defined scope with a fixed monthly or annual fee. You know what your accountant costs before you sign anything. Additional services are priced separately and quoted in advance — there are no open-ended hourly rates applied after the fact.

Getting started

Up and running in four steps

The process is straightforward. Most clients are fully set up within a couple of weeks of the first call.

1

A short discovery call

We spend 20 to 30 minutes understanding your business, your current setup, and what you actually need. No obligations. You will leave with a clear sense of what the right package looks like for your stage of business.

2

A clear, fixed-fee proposal

You receive a written proposal covering exactly what is included, the timeline, and the monthly or annual cost. Nothing is left vague. If the scope changes, we discuss it before anything changes on the invoice.

3

Onboarding and cloud setup

We handle the transition: cloud accounting setup, bank feed connections, any catch-up bookkeeping needed, and HMRC authorisation. You do not need to manage the migration yourself.

4

Focus on the business

With your compliance handled and your books current, your attention goes back to the work. Deadlines are tracked, questions are answered the same day, and your tax position is visible throughout the year rather than arriving as a bill you were not expecting.

Questions

Things most startup founders ask us

What do I actually need to file in my first year as a limited company?+

In your first year you will need to file statutory accounts with Companies House, a corporation tax return (CT600) with HMRC, and a confirmation statement. If you are paying yourself a salary, PAYE registration and RTI submissions are required. If your turnover approaches the VAT threshold, registration needs to be considered before you cross it, not after. We track all of these and handle each filing.

What does a startup accounting package cost?+

Pricing depends on the scope of services and the complexity of your business. A straightforward limited company package covering year-end accounts, corporation tax, and confirmation statement is priced on a fixed annual or monthly basis. Bookkeeping, payroll, VAT, and director self assessment are quoted separately and clearly. You receive a written proposal before anything starts.

My books are a mess from the first few months — is that a problem?+

It is common. Most new founders are focused on the business rather than the bookkeeping, which is entirely understandable. We carry out catch-up bookkeeping as part of the onboarding process and quote for that separately if significant work is involved. Starting from a clean position is straightforward once we have visibility of what is there.

Is there a minimum contract or lock-in period?+

No long-term contract is required. If after three months the arrangement is not working, you leave with your records in good order and nothing owed beyond work completed. Most clients stay because the service is useful, not because they are contractually obliged to.

When should I register for VAT as a new business?+

VAT registration is compulsory once your taxable turnover exceeds £90,000 in any rolling 12-month period. Some businesses choose to register voluntarily before that threshold, particularly if their clients are VAT-registered and the input tax reclaim is worthwhile. We monitor your revenue and advise on the right moment — you will not be caught out by crossing the threshold without notice.

How do I pay myself tax-efficiently as a director?+

Most owner-directors combine a small salary with dividends to keep the overall tax burden reasonable. The optimal split depends on your personal circumstances, any other income you have, and whether you have other shareholders. We work through this with you as part of your first-year planning, before you start drawing from the business.
