First-Year Accounts Hampshire

First-Year Accounts Hampshire

Your first-year accounts, filed on time.

You formed the company, got on with the work, and now the first accounting deadline is closer than you expected. First-year accounts often cover a longer period than twelve months, which catches many new directors out. Supreme Consulting handles the statutory accounts, CT600, and Companies House filing at a fixed fee, with replies within one working day.

  • Statutory accounts prepared and filed with Companies House on time
  • Corporation tax return (CT600) submitted to HMRC — no last-minute scramble
  • Your accounting reference date and filing deadlines confirmed from the start
  • Plain-English explanation of what you owe and when, well before the deadline

No long-term contract. If it is not working after three months, you leave with clean, filed accounts and nothing owed.

Sound familiar?

First accounts due and not sure where to start?

Most new directors form a company, get busy with clients, and then look up six months later to find an unfamiliar set of deadlines staring back at them. First-year accounts can cover more than twelve months. The corporation tax and Companies House filing dates do not always align. And the penalties for missing either are entirely avoidable with a small amount of forward planning.

  • Not sure whether your first accounting period is 12 months or longer
  • Filing deadlines for Companies House and HMRC sitting untracked in a drawer
  • No clear picture of the corporation tax bill until it is almost due

What a handled first year looks like

Your statutory accounts are prepared accurately, filed on time, and explained clearly. The corporation tax return is submitted to HMRC with your liability confirmed well in advance. You know where you stand before any deadline arrives.

  • Your accounting period length confirmed and accounts prepared accordingly
  • Companies House and HMRC deadlines tracked and met — nothing left to chance
  • Your corporation tax liability confirmed in advance, with time to plan

What you get

Everything your first year of compliance requires

A fixed-fee package covering your statutory accounts, corporation tax return, and Companies House filing — with the context and clarity to understand what each piece means.

01

Statutory Accounts Prepared and Filed

Your year-end accounts are prepared to the required standard and filed with Companies House before the nine-month deadline. We confirm your accounting reference date at the outset, so the period covered and the filing window are clear from day one. Directors receive a plain-English summary alongside the formal accounts.

Included as standard
02

Corporation Tax Return to HMRC

The CT600 is prepared and submitted to HMRC within the twelve-month filing window, with your tax liability calculated and explained before submission. You will know your payment date and the amount owed with enough lead time to plan for it. There are no surprise figures on the day the return goes in.

Included as standard
03

Tax Planning From Year One

The first year of trading is often when the most straightforward tax planning decisions are made — director salary levels, dividend policy, allowable expenses, and the timing of purchases. Getting those basics right in year one costs far less than correcting them later. We cover these points as part of the engagement, not as a chargeable extra.

Why Supreme Consulting

Why Hampshire businesses choose us for year-end accounts

There are plenty of accountants who will file what you send them. Fewer will tell you what you needed to know six months earlier.

📅

Over 20 years preparing accounts

Supreme Consulting has been preparing limited company accounts since 2005. First-year accounts are handled frequently and the common pitfalls — extended accounting periods, pre-trading expenditure, timing of capital allowances — are things we address before they become problems. Experience here means less explaining required from you.

💷

Fixed fee, no hidden additions

The quote you receive covers statutory accounts, the CT600, and the Companies House filing. There are no hourly overruns and no bolt-on charges for things that should have been in scope. If the scope needs to change, we tell you before doing the work, not after.

☁️

Cloud accounting from the start

Setting up your bookkeeping correctly in the first year saves considerable effort at every year-end that follows. We work with Xero and QuickBooks Online and can set up or migrate your records as part of the onboarding, giving you accurate data through the year rather than a reconstruction exercise at the end of it.

Getting started

Up and running in four steps

Most new clients are fully onboarded within a week. The process is designed to require as little from you as possible while getting everything in order from the outset.

1

A short discovery call

We start with a no-obligation conversation — usually 20 to 30 minutes — to understand your company, when it was formed, and what stage your records are at. You will leave the call knowing exactly what is included, what the fee is, and what happens next.

2

A clear, fixed-fee proposal

You receive a written proposal covering the scope, the fee, and the key deadlines. Nothing is assumed and nothing is hidden. If there is catch-up bookkeeping required before the accounts can be prepared, that is scoped and priced separately and clearly.

3

We handle the transition

Once instructed, we take over the administration — notifying your previous accountant if applicable, migrating records to the cloud, and confirming your Companies House and HMRC deadlines. The parts that tend to feel complicated are the parts we deal with so you do not have to.

4

Accounts filed, year done

Your statutory accounts and CT600 are filed ahead of deadline. You receive a plain-English summary of your tax position and what to expect in the year ahead. With the first year properly handled, every subsequent year-end becomes a considerably more straightforward exercise.

Questions

Common questions about first-year accounts

My company was formed mid-year — does that mean my first accounts cover more than 12 months?+

Often, yes. Companies House assigns an accounting reference date of the last day of the month in which your company was incorporated, making the first accounting period run until the same date the following year. Depending on when you incorporated, that first period can be anywhere from just over twelve months to nearly two years. We confirm your reference date and period at the outset so there are no surprises.

What is included in the fixed fee for first-year accounts?+

The standard package covers preparation and filing of your statutory year-end accounts with Companies House, preparation and submission of the corporation tax return (CT600) to HMRC, and a review of your director’s remuneration and dividend position for the year. Bookkeeping clean-up or catch-up, if your records are not already in order, is scoped and priced separately before any work begins.

My bookkeeping is in a mess — can you still prepare the accounts?+

Yes, and it is more common than you might expect. We carry out a bookkeeping review as part of the onboarding process, identify what needs to be reconstructed or corrected, and provide a fixed quote for the catch-up work before touching anything. The accounts are then prepared from clean records, which means the figures are accurate and the tax return is based on something reliable.

Am I tied in after the first year?+

No. There is no long-term contract. If you decide to move to a different accountant after the first year, we will hand over all your records, filed accounts, and HMRC correspondence in full. The only thing we ask is reasonable notice so that any work in progress can be properly transferred. Most clients stay because the service works, not because leaving is complicated.

What happens if I miss the Companies House or HMRC filing deadline?+

Companies House imposes automatic late filing penalties starting at £150 for private companies filing up to one month late, rising to £1,500 for more than six months. HMRC adds a £100 penalty for a late CT600, with further charges accruing after three months. Both are avoidable with a small amount of forward planning. We track your deadlines and flag them well in advance — the penalties only tend to arise when there is no accountant actively managing the calendar.

Can I claim expenses I paid personally before the company was formed?+

Pre-incorporation expenses can be claimed by the company provided they were incurred wholly and exclusively for the purpose of the trade that the company subsequently carries on. Common examples include professional fees, software subscriptions, and equipment purchased before the incorporation date. The rules are specific and the claim needs to be handled correctly in the first set of accounts — it is not something to reconstruct later.
