Sound familiar?
QuickBooks installed. Still none the wiser.
QuickBooks Online is a capable tool, but only if it is set up for the way your business actually works. Many Hampshire small business owners have it running — bank feeds pulling in, invoices going out — but the reports tell them very little, the reconciliation is months behind, and VAT time involves a lot of manual checking. The software is not the problem. The configuration and the ongoing discipline are.
- ✕ Bank feeds pulling in but reconciliation months out of date
- ✕ Reports that do not reflect actual profit or cash position
- ✕ VAT returns still requiring significant manual work outside QuickBooks
What a properly managed QuickBooks file looks like
When QuickBooks is configured correctly and maintained monthly, the numbers you see are numbers you can trust. VAT is calculated automatically, payroll integrates cleanly, and you have a live view of where the business stands.
- ✓ Reconciliation completed monthly — books current, nothing queued up
- ✓ Profit and cash position visible at any point in the month
- ✓ VAT return prepared from QuickBooks data — reviewed, filed, done
- ✓ Fixed monthly fee — no hourly surprises, no catch-up invoices
What clients say about working with us
Hampshire businesses and contractors who needed their accounts sorted and their accountant to be straightforward about what was happening and why.
Very clear and gives excellent clarity on all situations when I am in doubt. Communication is always prompt, professional, and easy to understand, which makes dealing with finances far less stressful. They take the time to explain things.
I’m so grateful for the help received with my small cleaning business. Stuart holds your hand and advises throughout!
QuickBooks accounting — what the fee covers
Three core components. Each is priced clearly upfront, and each is designed to give you a cleaner, more useful picture of your business finances.
QuickBooks Setup and Migration
If you are starting from scratch or moving from another platform, the chart of accounts, bank feeds, tax rates, and payroll integration are configured to reflect your business correctly. Getting the setup right is what makes everything else straightforward. Migration from Xero, spreadsheets, or a previous accountant’s system is handled without disruption.
One-off or included in onboardingMonthly Bookkeeping and Reconciliation
Transactions categorised correctly, bank feeds reconciled, and the file kept current every month. You have an accurate picture of your finances without having to produce it yourself. VAT returns are prepared directly from QuickBooks data and filed via Making Tax Digital.
Fixed monthly retainerReporting, Accounts, and Advisory
Quarterly management accounts drawn from your QuickBooks data show where profit is coming from, what cash is doing, and where to focus attention. Year-end accounts and corporation tax are filed from the same clean source. Where the numbers raise a question worth asking, it gets asked.

Why Hampshire businesses switch to us
Four things that distinguish how we work, drawn from 21 years of practice rather than from a marketing brief.
QuickBooks Online, properly configured
Being QuickBooks Online certified means the setup is done by someone who uses the platform daily, not someone who completed a tick-box course. Chart of accounts, tax codes, bank rules, payroll integration — configured to match your business, not a generic template. The result is reports you can actually use.
Twenty-one years of practical experience
Supreme Consulting has been working with Hampshire small businesses and contractors since 2005. That is a long time to accumulate a working knowledge of what goes wrong, what HMRC scrutinises, and what the numbers in a QuickBooks file are actually telling you. Stuart works directly with every client — no handoffs to junior staff.
Fixed fees, no ambiguity
Pricing is agreed upfront by scope. There are no hourly rates running in the background, no surprise invoices at year-end, and no charge for picking up the phone to ask a reasonable question. If the scope changes, the fee is discussed before the work starts.
Up and running in four straightforward steps
The process is designed to get you from wherever you are now — including behind on the books — to a clean, current QuickBooks file with as little disruption as possible.
A no-obligation discovery call
We start with a conversation about your business, your current QuickBooks setup (or the absence of one), and what you actually need from an accountant. There is no sales script. You will leave the call with a clear picture of what is involved and what it will cost.
A clear, fixed-fee proposal
You receive a written proposal covering the scope of services, what is included, and the monthly fee. No vague estimates and no items that turn out to cost extra. If you want changes to the scope before signing, that is a straightforward conversation.
Onboarding and QuickBooks setup
We handle the transition. If you have an existing QuickBooks file, we review and correct it. If you are starting fresh or migrating from another platform, we configure everything correctly from the outset. You do not need to prepare anything in particular beforehand.
Ongoing — accounts handled, finances visible
Monthly bookkeeping, quarterly VAT, payroll, and year-end accounts run to a schedule. Your QuickBooks file is current, your tax position is visible well before deadlines arrive, and your accountant is reachable on the day you have a question. Which is, frankly, the way it should be.
“Stuart is a thorough efficient worker who produces good quality results at a reasonable price.”
Honest answers to the questions we hear most
We already have QuickBooks Online — can you take over an existing file rather than start again?
Yes, and this is the most common starting point. We review the existing file, identify any miscategorisations or reconciliation gaps, and clean it up before taking over ongoing management. If the file is significantly behind or misconfigured, we will tell you upfront what the catch-up involves and what it costs, rather than discovering it later.
What does QuickBooks accounting with Supreme Consulting actually cost?
Pricing depends on the size of your business, the volume of transactions, and which services you need alongside the bookkeeping — VAT, payroll, year-end accounts, and so on. All pricing is fixed-fee and agreed in writing before any work starts. There are no hourly rates and no charges for routine questions. A free quote takes about 20 minutes.
Our books are significantly behind and the QuickBooks file is a mess. Is that a problem?
It is a reasonably common situation, and it is recoverable. We assess the backlog, quote for the catch-up work as a separate fixed piece, and then move to a regular monthly arrangement once everything is current. Most clients are surprised how straightforward the process is once someone who knows what they are doing is working through it methodically.
Is there a minimum contract period or a tie-in?
There is no long-term contract. Services run on a monthly basis, and if you decide to move on, we will transfer your QuickBooks file and all relevant records without obstruction. We would rather earn the relationship month by month than rely on a contract clause to keep it.
Can you handle Making Tax Digital VAT submissions directly from QuickBooks Online?
Yes. VAT returns are prepared from your QuickBooks Online data, reviewed for accuracy, and submitted to HMRC via the MTD-compliant connection built into the platform. There is no manual rekeying and no risk of the submission being out of step with your bookkeeping records. If your VAT threshold monitoring needs attention, that is covered as part of the ongoing service.
Will I be able to see my tax position during the year, rather than finding out at the last minute?
That is one of the practical benefits of keeping QuickBooks current. Corporation tax or self assessment liability can be estimated from real-time profit figures at any point in the year, rather than surfacing as a surprise after year-end. For limited company directors, knowing roughly what you owe in September is considerably more useful than finding out in January.
